The Master of Ceremonies at Cornets and Cannons will be distinguished music historian, writer, conductor, lecturer, and clinician Dr. Ronald W. Holz. Professor of Music Literature and Instrumental Music at Asbury University, Dr. Holz received his graduate degrees in historical musicology from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and the University of Connecticut. He has written several acclaimed books about band history – most recently the two-volume Brass Bands of the Salvation Army: Their Music and Mission. His articles have appeared in publications such as Journal of Band Research, Brass Band World, and The British Bandsman, and he has written scholarly program notes for numerous compact discs by internationally famous bands.
Dr. Holz is conductor of the Asbury University Orchestra, the Salvation Army Student Fellowship Brass band of Asbury University, and the Lexington Brass Band. This ensemble has appeared at the International Trumpet Guild annual conference and the All England Masters Brass Band Championships. It presents a series of concerts each year and has issued several recordings. Dr. Holz is a recipient of the North American Brass Band Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award. He is active in the management of the Great American Brass Band Festival in Danville, Kentucky.
