Olde Towne Brass

oldtownescan0404

Olde Towne Brass hails from Huntsville, Alabama. The band is dedicated to keeping alive the music of the Civil War, and the brass players particularly enjoy performing on over-the-shoulder horns – the characteristic military band instruments of that era. The band’s library includes over 4,000 tunes collected from across the country over decades of research. Olde Towne Brass performs frequently at reenactments, music festivals, and special events – from Gettysburg reenactments to the Little Big Horn Festival in Montana, Confederate Memorial Hall in New Orleans, and the President William McKinley Museum in Canton, Ohio.

With a particular affinity for the Bluegrass State, this versatile group was co-host band of the National Civil War Band Festivals at Campbellsville, Kentucky, and is a staple of the Great American Brass Band Festival in Danville, Kentucky. They performed at the dedication of the Kentucky Confederate Monument at Vicksburg National Military Park. The gentlemen of Olde Towne Brass are especially proud of their collaborations with film-maker Ken Burns. They recorded music for his films Not for Ourselves Alone and Jazz. The band appeared in the motion picture American Drummer Boy. Recordings include A Southron Serenade, Olde Towne Brass Live, The Blue & Grey Olio, and Band Music of the Blue & Grey.
